Once I got diagnosed with ADHD and started learning about myself, I got comfortable with saying No to jobs that I knew would be a constant battle. It allowed me to seek out challenges my brain would enjoy, instead of fighting with my brain to do things it had no interest in.
Discovering and implementing tools has also been a huge help. My diagnosis gave me permission to use tools to fill in where I struggled, whereas before I was seeing my challenges as moral failures that I could fix by “just trying harder”.
Has your diagnosis changed how you approach job searching or what roles you’re willing to take on? What tools or strategies have made the biggest difference for you?
